Iphone 3G, disable carrier settings

Long time havent update / review about gadget encounter or provide some view on the latest gadget on the street.

Recently, with the much awaiting Iphone 3G launching in Malaysia has finally launched by Maxis. However, some industry watcher has been thinking other operator might follow suite as is not an exclusive deal in Malaysia. Well, i guess we shall wait and see, especially Maxis package has been NOT so ATTRACTIVE for the low usage customer. (Well, Iphone has been label as an high end phone, probably if every tom, dick & harry owning on, it will not be so "high end" anymore.)

I wish to share some tips & tricks for those Iphone 3G user (especially on Maxis or carrier supported country) where their APN settings has been hidden from changing thus hamper the trick to disable data connection (of course, Jailbreak can solve this problem). This tips are for those who prefer to stick to original firmware.

1. Download the Iphone Enterprise Configuration tools, from Apple official site. Link:- MAC, PC
2. Create a new “Configuration Profile” and click on the “Advanced Setting” to set the APN information for EDGE/3G (an invalid APN will render the data connection failed to connect.
3. After you have done that export the profile, send it as email to your iphone and install it as instructed on the screen.
4. Reboot the phone (Home + Power Button simultaneously)
5. Test by connecting to the internet with certain apps (eg. Maps, Stocks, Weather , etc)
